Introduction

In 2024, I began sharing a studio space in Haarlem with a group of fellow artists.
Every Sunday, we’d gather to draw and paint nude models, a practice that, until then, I had never truly explored.

For much of my creative life, I hadn’t been particularly drawn to the human figure. But something shifted. Maybe it was the discipline of repetition, or the quiet energy in the studio each week. Whatever it was, it cracked something open in me. The figure, once overlooked, became endlessly fascinating.

This collection captures that turning point. It documents my growing obsession with form, posture, and presence. With each study, I learn not just about anatomy, but about weight, vulnerability, tension, gesture, and something unspoken that exists between the lines.

Figure Studies is as much about observation as it is about empathy. These aren’t perfect renderings. They’re moments of deep attention, attempts to see others more clearly, and through that, perhaps see myself a bit more clearly too.
